Mackerel Port Meetings This Week
The South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (SAFMC) staff is hosting 4 mackerel port meetings in North Carolina, Monday through Thursday this week. This is your chance to tell the council what this fishery means to you, your family, and your fishing communities.
The future for the commercial Spanish mackerel fishery in NC is very uncertain. If we do not show up and tell them how we want our mackerel fisheries to look we may not have a fishery in just a few short years.
If Spanish and king mackerel are important to you and your business you need to be at one or more of these meetings!

Marine Safety Instructor Training Class
https://www.amsea.org/classes/1086495
The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association and NC Sea Grant are looking to modify the marine safety drill instructor course and make it more relevant for the local fleet. One of the best ways to do this is by recruiting knowledgeable locals who understand how our fishermen operate. This is a great opportunity to help others learn how to be safe and earn some extra money teaching classes a few times a year. This training is also free to the first three to apply.
