LEGISLATIVE UPDATE:

In last week’s update I wrote that H-655 NC HEALTH CARE FOR WORKING FAMILIES had been on the House calendar for a while for a floor vote and later in the update wrote that it passed the House. That bill is being used as a negotiating tool on the budget and HAS NOT been voted on in the House. Sorry for the confusion.

The legislative schedule will continue at least till late August, depending on veto override attempts and/or budget negotiations between the General Assembly and the Governor. The House is meeting all next week with votes on the floor planned and some committees as well. The NC Farm Bill will be in the Judiciary Committee and then Rules, but committee activity will be very limited. House Rules Committee is scheduled to meet Monday at 3:00pm.

The Senate will have floor votes next week and a Rules Committee is scheduled for Monday at 4:30pm. Otherwise, very limited committee activity is expected. Bottom line is that no fish bills are expected to come up before they adjourn.

Bill status has not changed from last week.

TRADEWINDS

We hate to inform our readers/advertisers but Tradewinds production will be delayed at least until the September issue due to our printing company closing the doors without notice to their employees and clients.  We are diligently working to get a new printing company, hopefully as soon as possible.
