NC Commercial Snapper Grouper Meeting
The South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (SAFMC) is holding an in-person scoping meeting Monday and Tuesday nights for Amendment 60, Commercial Snapper/Grouper 1 Permit and Trip Efficiency, in Morehead City and Bolivia, North Carolina.
Purpose of Amendment 60:
The amendment has two main objectives:
- To address issues related to the commercial Snapper Grouper Unlimited (SG 1) permit.
- To increase commercial trip efficiency.
Action Summary:
- Revise the 2-for-1 snapper grouper commercial unlimited permit policy;
- Establish dynamic (step-down) trip limits;
- Revise existing stowage requirements for gear on board.

MAFMC Meeting This Week
The Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (MAFMC) meets Tuesday, August 11th – Thursday, August 13th in Philadelphia, PA with an option of attending virtually. Public comment will be accepted in-person and remotely on all major agenda items.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) Surveys Update, Summer Flounder, Black Sea Bass, and Bluefish.
NCMFC Meets Next Week
The North Carolina Marine Fisheries Commission (NCMFC) meets at the DoubleTree Raleigh Midtown hotel, August 19-20 in Raleigh, NC.
Topics at the meeting include but are not limited to:
Annual Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) Updates
Review of the Kingfishes Stock Complex Data
Coastal Habitat Protection Plan 2026 Amendment
Rulemaking, which includes New Atlantic Bonito Rules
