From Our Executive Director-Glenn Skinner
The NCFA would like to congratulate Martin Posey, Robert McNeil and Sam Romano on their appointment to the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Commission.
We would also like to thank Governor Cooper and his administration for their continued commitment to appointing a fair and balanced Marine Fisheries Commission.
The NCFA will be hold a meeting Thursday, August 15 from 3-6pm at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott located at 2090 W.15th Street, Washington, NC to discuss the proposed changes to the Southern Flounder FMP. We will be discussing the proposed management options that are still on the table in hopes of getting a consensus of what industry prefers out of the limited options we have to work with. This issue is very important and we encourage everyone involved in the Flounder fishery to attend.

SAFMC Scamp Release
A citizen science project to collect data
on released Scamp Grouper
WHAT: The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council is launching the mobile app, SAFMC Release. This is our first Citizen Science Pilot Project to collect information on released Scamp Grouper.
WHY: The number of released fish in the South Atlantic is increasing and improving data on these fish is a priority research need. Better information on released fish could be useful to the upcoming Scamp stock assessment and for future management.
WHO: Participation in this project is needed from commercial, for-hire, and recreational offshore bottom fishermen – including you!
HOW: Fishermen will use the free mobile app, SAFMC Release, to collect data on released Scamp Grouper.
Data collected will include:
length, depth and location of released fish, & use of barotrauma reduction devices.
